About the Database:

Given that the information related to the land development sector in Palestine is numerous, scattered in related organizations and directorates of Palestine Ministry of Agriculture, un-updated, incomplete and unavailable for decision makers for planning and putting strategies, a dire need to centralize, compile and update the aforementioned information in a national and  interactive online database arose to make it available for stakeholders and decision makers.
Over the course of two years, Land Research Center developed, through Land and Water Resources Program, funded by Netherlands Representative Office in Palestine, supervised by Ministry of Agriculture, directed by Union of Agriculture Work Committees - UWAC in partnership with: Union of Agriculture Work Committees - UWAC, Palestine Hydrology Group - PHG,  Economic and Social Development Center of Palestine - ESDC and Land Research Center - LRC and in cooperation with directorates of Palestine Ministry of Agricultures and related organizations, a national interactive online database to be  main source of information related to land and water resources sector that can be relied on in planning and putting developmental strategies for the sector.
The database include the following three main sectors at communities level:

1. Current and previous land and water development projects:

A. Detailed information on agricultural lands sector including:
  • Rehabilitation and reclamation projects and programs 
  • Rehabilitation and opening of agricultural roads projects
  • House gardens projects 

B. Detailed information on water sector within agricultural development projects including:
  • Rehabilitation and establishment of artisan wells and springs
  • Water harvesting projects 
  • Water Tankering projects 
  • Waste and Grey water treatment projects
  • Desalination projects 
C. Water, Land , Plants and Energy  Pilot Projects 

2. Detailed information on Palestinian communities: statistical info, geopolitical status, land  suitability for reclamation and rehabilitation, land cover and water resources.

3. Developmental Schemes in Arabic and English for 43 Palestinian communities that were targeted by the Netherlands program during the last phase in addition to the possibility to add any developmental schemes for the rest of communities.

Database ownership:

Since Palestine Ministry of Agriculture is the incubator of the agricultural sector, the higher authority in administering and directing the sector, the most capable body to run, activate and guarantee the sustainability of the database, the flow of information in it and its future development in cooperation with related organizations,  it was decided from the beginning that the ownership and administration of the database will be in hands of Palestine Ministry of Agriculture.

Database Features

  1. Resources, Publications and References: the database will enable users to upload references and resource related to the sector of land and water development as  technical manuals, financial and operational manuals, brochures, books and any related publications in addition to allowing users to access such information.
  2. Various types for reports: users can easily and interactively extract  information from the database without the need to prior training. Information come equipped with charts, statistics and illustrations. Also, the database allows the exportation of information in different formats to ease its usage.
  3. Linkable with other databases: information in this database can be linked to other outer databases such like the donors and implementers’ ones or any other internet websites.
  4. Beneficiaries Applications: the database will enable users; especially directorates of Palestine Ministry of Agriculture to upload land rehabilitation and development applications and lists to be later used in managing and setting projects’ priorities.
  5. Beneficiaries Check:  the database allows a check feature to look at the record of previous beneficiaries to avoid duplication in awarding. 
  6. Database Security:  the database supervisor can determine permission of access to users and supervisors and size and shape of usage of information at user level and can also determine supervisor and their work scope to fairly distribute the load. 
  7. Expected users: the database will allow Ministry of Agriculture,  directorates, related ministries, funding bodies, NGOs, CBOs, researcher, students and any other related body to access and use the database as per given proxy.
  8. List of members: the database will allow all users and registered members to share contacts information, enabling members to use and revisit information when needed.
  9. Announcements: the database will allow Ministry of Agriculture to announce tenders, news and advertisements related to ministry and other related organizations.
  10. Knowledge Base: the database will allow the administrator to draw scenarios of usage, expected access problems and solutions to be revisited by users when needed.
